Roof Truss Wall Plate

Otherwise setting roof trusses onto wall plates can be done by the average do it yourselfer usually in one to two days depending on the size and scope of the project.

Fixing roof trusses to a wall plate requires a small amount of carpentry knowledge such as the abilities to read a tape measure and operate a framing square. Be careful not to split the end of the truss and it would be a good idea to pre drill the end first before nailing. This takes a little extra time but well worth the effort. As with rafter style roofs toenailing is one of the most common ways of attaching a truss style roof to a wall plate. Another great way of attaching the truss end to the top wall plate is to use a simpson fastener shown in the picture above which you can find at your local lumber store.

As an alternate to the roof truss anchor a bolted top plate may be used for the roof to wall connection see figure 5. Toenail a truss into the top of the wall plate by nailing through the sides of the bottom chord at a 30 degree angle. Will all be fixed to them.
